Hellodeo

Friday, August 4th, 2006

I’d love to seee some Cit J’s experimenting with some podcasts - a great place to start is Odeo’s new Hellodeo. You can record a podcast directly from your computer and broadcast it straight away. You will need the address for the MP3 file to play it here on the Norg.

Happy Podcasting.

Logging in to PerthNorg

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

Thought I’d point out that when you register as a Cit J and are emailed a password, you have to then enter your username and the supplied password before you are logged in. This the takes you to the profile page where you can change the password straaight away. I’d suggest this unless you’re prone to remembering things like 78yh6a.

We decided on this system as it helps us keep spammers out. It also beats retyping “the letters that appear in the image.”

We have added a button on our login page if you need any help - just a note that our login system is case sensitive.

See you round the Norg!

Day 2 - Doing well, keep on coming

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

Well it’s Day 2 here at PerthNorg and we’ve seen a bit of action.

We’ve kept the promotion fairly low key at this stage as we’ve wanted to improve on a couple of features before we hit the pavements. We’ve actually had a good number of Cit J’s register and as people get less shy they’ll start making a contribution.

Remember one of the important functions of out Cit J’s is their voting powers. A couple of people have asked about why they have to be a member to vote. We decided that you need to be registered to avoid the system being abused.
For that reason we’ve made the sign-up process as simple as possible, but also as secure as we can - to keep PerthNorg out of the hands of spammers.

Have something to say about the Norg? Drop us a line here.

In the meantime, happy reading, writing, linking and voting …

Some of the great blogs we have on board

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

I thought I should point out some of the blogs we have here at PerthNorg. At the moment we have four regular blogs (including this one), but this may expand as we grow.

If you are a foodie or just don’t know what to cook for dinner - head on over to Abstract Gourmet - where Matt will delight you with his culinary writing. Even if the recipes look too intimidating he always takes a good picture that is sure to make you hungry.

Perth Music is another great local blog that Justin M has been slaving away on for the last few years. It’s great to have Justin based here with us now and I’m sure he’ll keep you up to date with the latest happenings in the Perth music scene. We’re a great supporter of Perth bands at PerthNorg and we encourage all of you to get in touch with your audiences here.

Next we have our gossip blog Busybee, where you can induldge yourself with all the gossip from Perth to Hollywood. Don’t expect your usual mish-mash from the tabloids - Busybee has a sting and she’s not afraid to use it.

Lastly , there’s this blog Norgdom dedicated to creating a great online news community. We’d love to have your feedback here.
